Coronavirus Updates

To minimize possible exposures, we are asking that families remain in their cars until the exam room is ready. Please call us when you arrive in the parking lot. We will call you when your room is ready. We are asking that everyone over the age of two, including parents and siblings, wear a mask at all times in our office.

At this time we are scheduling our well-child checkups in the morning, and our sick visits in the afternoon. Please be advised that both the CDC and American Academy of Pediatrics are still recommending that routine check-ups continue, especially for children who need routine vaccinations.

We are offering Telehealth visits for routine follow up of ADHD, behavioral concerns, and mental health issues. These need to be scheduled through our front staff, but the visit will be done remotely. Please be aware that this is a short term solution since normally in-office visits include height, weight and blood pressure measurements.

Weekend Hour Updates

We are still open Saturday mornings.  During this time, we ask that you call and schedule as early as possible as we may close early on Saturday due to patient volume.   We are now going to be closed on Sundays.  Please be aware that UNC Pediatric Urgent Care on Blue Ridge Rd. is open during the times our office would normally be open on Sundays.  We expect these changes to be temporary, and apprecite you patience and understanding.

Thank you to our families for voting us best Pediatric Practice!

Statement on Covid-19 and Students Return to School

There is no easy answer to the question of whether to send you children back to school this Fall.  It is a decision that depends on your specific family circumstances.  Among the factors to be considered:

  1.  Is your child at increased risk from infection?  Are there family members at home at risk?
  2. What is your family’s tolerance for risk?  Will a return to school create excess anxiety?
  3. How have your children handled being out of school?
  4. How do your children handle changing routines?
  5. Are you able to school at home with your work demands?
  6. Does your child receive additional services at school that are not available to them in the home?
  7. Do you feel that your school has the necessary resources to be safely open?
  8. Is your child willing and able to wear a mask?

Families also have to be prepared for the usual childhood illnesses setting off more than usual distress and disruption.  Colds and ‘flu are not distinctly different from covid-19 infection; testing is slower than we would like and not completely accurate, so ‘false alarms’ and quarantines ‘just to be safe’ will be part of our new normal.  Flexibility has to be a part of any plan.

In general, children are thought to be less likely to get covid-19, less likely to become severely ill, and less likely to transmit the infection to others; that is, they are at “less risk.”  “Less risk” is not no risk. The costs and benefits of attending school in person have to be weighed individually. is a wonderful resource and has an article on this subject at

NC Department of Health and Human Services has a statement updated 9/20

We understand this is a difficult decision.  If you wish to discuss this further as it pertains to your child, we will be happy to address your questions in a telehealth visit.
